"It feels like I am holding the keys to my new car, except I'm holding the keys to my new home"
King David has been a visitor at Set Free Care for over 12 years.
He has always come with a big smile, and full of encouragement and positivity.
David had lived out of his truck for as long as we have known him at Set Free Care. Although he always presented as a man who seemingly had all he wanted and needed, we still wanted to give him and his pet Dog a new home.
King David had never registered his name at the department of housing as he never wanted to take the trip to Robina in person. In his words "It's a mission getting in and out of that place" and therefore he never thought to disclose his homelessness situation to any of the welfare services.
When Set Free care started the Community Services Hub, the Department of housing were able to attend the service in person.
With the professional services readily available, we were able to support David to register for public housing.
We learned that there was much more to David's story which was truly inspiring that he had survived so long while continuing to smile along the way.
This photo was taken on Boxing day, which was also his birthday. This is him in front of his new house ready to start a new chapter in his life.
Happy Birthday King David. We hope and pray only better days ahead for you.
